Lady Washington Gets Support For New Home

Aberdeen, WA - The Aberdeen City Council last night adopted a resolution showing their support for the Grays Harbor Historical Seaport's attempt to procure a home for Washington's Official Ship, the Lady Washington.
Director of the Seaport, Les Bolton, tells us red tape is holding up the lease transfer, not with property owner Weyerhaeuser, but with the State "The Department of Natural Resources owns the shorelines of the State of Washington. Weyerhaeuser has a lease that runs through 2015, we need the lease because we want to create public moorage on DNR property."
The Seaport Authority made an offer to acquire 28 acres of the former Weyerhaeuser sawmill property in South Aberdeen more than a year ago, however Bolton quipped "I can't park Lady Washington in the parking lot."
Bolton said without that lease, the Seaport would remain land locked. If acquired, Bolton said they intend to develop the property into a regional tourism destination and maintenance facility for the tall ships Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain.
State Representative Brian Blake tells us he has requested an onsite meeting with the DNR, Weyerhaeuser, and the Seaport, on April 30th to discuss this issue.
