Montesano, WA - The Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Montesano Fire Department, will offer a boater education course for Washington boaters. This eight hour course provides boaters the basics of safe boating for recreational boaters.

This course was developed specifically for the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission and is taught by members of the GHC Sheriff’s Marine Unit. The Adventures in Boating Washington, A Course on Responsible Boating manual and exam will be provided at the class. Pre-register by e-mailing brussell@co.grays-harbor.wa.us.

This class is a public service and there is no charge for attending.

As of Jan. 1, 2012, boat operators between the ages of 12 and 40 are required to carry a Boater Education Card when operating a boat on Washington waterways. Tickets are now being issued to violators. The law applies to operators of motorboats of 15 horsepower or greater. The card requirement will be phased in through 2014, when ALL boaters born on or after Jan. 1, 1955, will be required to have a card. Boaters born before Jan. 1, 1955, are exempt from this law. Cards cost $10.00 and are good for a lifetime.
