Signature Verification Process Begins on I-502

Posted by David Haviland on January 12, 2012 at 7:57 am (426 social interactions)

Olympia, WA - Sampling begins tomorrow morning on %3 of the signatures on recreational-marijuana Initiative 502, David Ammons, Communications Director for the Office of Secretary of State tells us the check will verify voter status, and compare the signature on the petition with the one on file. If the measure is confirmed to have enough signatures (241,153), it will be sent to the Legislature.
Grays Harbor County Sheriff Mike Wheelan said recently "I'm not a proponent of across the board legalization, it's my opinion that probably within the next 10 to 15 years that marijuana probably will be legalized. I think we may well come to a point where the majority of people say 'it's time for us to stop worrying about marijuana, and let's move on and do something else.'"
If confirmed, lawmaker have the choice of passing it, letting it go to the ballot this fall, or sending both it and a legislative alternative to the ballot.
