First Hike For The New Year

Montesano, WA - About 120 hikers started the New Year with a two mile hike around Lake Sylvia State Park in Montesano, as part of the nationwide "First Hike" campaign aimed at rejuvenating minds and bodies through outdoor exercise. Aberdeen City Councilman Jeff Cook tells us Ranger Brian Hageman had expected about 15 to 20 hikers.

Sylvia and Schafer started the new year with some good news, Virginia Painter with the state Parks Department tells us even though Ranger Hageman may be moved to another position, there will still be two full time rangers, one at each park - plus one seasonal ranger at Lake Sylvia. in addition, 5 seasonal park aids will be spread between the two parks.

Painter said Hageman is at risk of being bumped through a seniority program, but had not yet been bumped as of Friday.
