Montesano, WA - Lake Sylvia and Schafer state parks are loosing their District Ranger. Gregory Johnson with the Friends of Schafer and Lake Sylvia tells us Ranger Brian received a phone call yesterday from his boss that he is being bumped from his Ranger 3 position, and his State home at Lake Sylvia February 1st. About 160 Parks staff statewide are being cut in the wake of poor Discovery Pass sales. The State Parks and Recreation Commission said a core concept behind the reduction plan is to keep parks open in order to continue to build support for the Discover Pass. The new user-fee program was launched in July to replace General Fund tax dollars no longer available to operate state recreation lands.
