Montesano, WA - Some county residents have reported they are seeing an influx of salal pickers on county, and private, land. Grays Harbor County Commissioner Herb Welch said Monday, he wants to hear about it "Contact me if nobody else, or call the Sheriff. I'd kind of like to know what's going on out there, and I'm not shocked that somebody's stealing brush."
The penalty for picking salal outside of designated areas can start at $275, Welch said he couldn't make any promises "what can be done? who knows, but if we don't know about it nothing is going to be done."
The floral greens are a $150 million a year business in Washington, according to the state Farm Bureau. Welch will discuss the matter with callers live on Coffee Talk January 12th.
