Education Funding Alternatives Could Be Proposed

Posted by David Haviland on December 20, 2011 at 4:08 am (414 social interactions)

Hoquiam, WA - With Public Education a huge bill on Washington's budget, State  Representative Ross Hunter may soon propose reform to the education funding system;
Jean Davis, President of the Hoquiam Teacher's Association says they've reviewed the proposal "We se it as extremely expensive for Hoquiam, and the smaller districts, especially those without a strong economic base."
Hunter proposes a ‘swap’ of local for state tax collections in each school district as well as getting rid of "levy equalization" all together.
Hoquiam School Superintendent Mike Parker said he doesn't agree with it entirely, but "At least they're looking at some other model, this model that we have to day has been with us for 30 or 40 years, it's outdated."
As State legislators head back to Olympia January 9th, the target on the back of education funding gets bigger. For more details on Hunter’s proposal, visit http://www.rosshunter.info/.
