How to Close a School 101

Hoquiam, WA - What do you do when a school district dissolves?
Hoquiam Assistant Superintendent Shannon Webster attended a Business Manager meeting last week on the subject "One of the things that they talked to us about was, districts going into binding conditions and then insolvency." Webster said the state is making plans now to respond to failures in nearby school districts like Vader that closed it's door in 2007, sending 90 students to nearby Castle Rock. "One of the other reasons they're doing this is because they believe that this is going to become an issue in the future."
Webster said currently 3 districts in Washington are on binding conditions, and could face closure if financial changes are not made. Two of those are in ESD 113, which services 44 districts in Grays Harbor, Pacific, Thurston, Mason, and Lewis Counties.
