Tumwater, WA - One man is dead from a two car collision yesterday near Tumwater. The Washington State Patrol tells us both vehicles were traveling northbound on I-5 at 93rd Ave in the middle lane Just before 9:00 a.m. when the driver of a 2002 Freightliner semi rear-ended a 2007 Honda CR-V. The CR-V was forced off the road to the right where it struck a light pole and came to rest on the right shoulder. The semi also continued off the road to the right and struck several trees.

Other drivers stopped and attempted to help the driver of the semi who was still in the driver’s seat. The semi caught fire and flames overtook the cab very quickly. The driver of the semi was pronounced deceased at the scene. Both occupants in the Honda CR-V were treated at the scene for minor injuries, and released.

It is unknown at this time what the factors are that caused this tragic collision. The driver of the semi will be identified by the coroner’s office.
