Montesano to Repeal Sprinkler Ordinance

Montesano, WA - It should get a little easier to build in Montesano soon, city council last night agreed to draft an ordinance repealing their Sprinkler ordinance.
Local business owner Stormy Glick told the council earlier this month that costs to comply were hindering his business. "I can't get a loan on this building, and I don't have an extra $40,000 to put sprinklers in the building. So I'm not going to build a building, it's going to sit there as an empty gravel lot."
Glick expressed his frustrations with trying to build under the current sprinkler ordinance that requires sprinklers in any new building. Fire Chief Cory Rux told the council last night, federal and state regulations cover any implications to insurance rates, and suggested the repeal.
