Pontoon Construction Site Hits Another Milestone Today

ABERDEEN, Wash. - Another milestone at the Pontoon Construction Site this afternoon as crews will lower into place the first of three gate sections that will separate Grays Harbor from the casting basin. Joe Irwin with the Washington State Department of Transportation tells us after each cycle of pontoon is completed, the gate is removed and the pontoons are floated out by tugboat to a moorage site in the harbor. WSDOT says the gates weigh 50 tons apiece, and measure 110 feet long, 10 feet tall and 10 feet wide, a 300-ton crane will place the first two gates today, with the final gate in place by Friday.
