Coast Guard Tows Leaking Boat Into Westport

WESTPORT, Wash. - The US Coast Guard assisted the crew of a 50-foot fishing vessel, which was taking on water near Grays Harbor yesterday evening.

Coast Guard Sector Columbia River received a report from the crew of the fishing vessel Michael Lisa that the vessel was taking on water aprroximately 23 miles west of Grays Harbor at 6:08 p.m Wednesday.

The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Orcas, based in Coos Bay, Ore., a 47-foot motor lifeboat crew from Station Grays Harbor, and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew, from Air Station Astoria, were dispatched to the scene where the crew of the Orcas worked with the Michael Lisa's crew to de-water the vessel.  Because the leak aboard the Michael Lisa could not be repaired, the crew of the Orcas towed the vessel to Grays Harbor while its crew used de-watering equipment to keep the Michael Lisa afloat.

The 47-foot motor lifeboat crew assumed the tow at Grays Harbor and took the Michael Lisa safely into Westport.
