Montesano Accepts Proposed Police Contract

Montesano, WA - City Council accepted a proposed 3-year contract with the Teamster's Uniformed Police Union last night in Montesano. Mayor Ron Schillinger said after a 15 minute executive session "some of us have heartburn about any increase, considering the fact that they've got work, and many private sector people aren't seeing increases."
The contract negotiated by the city starts next year with a %5 salary increase for Montesano's Police, the following two years increase would range from 0 to %3 depending on consumer price indexing. City council weighed their options against litigation that may have cost twice as much as the $15,000 increase for the first year. City Finance Director Kristy Powel explained to council that the increase brings officers into the median level.
