Aberdeen School Board Revises Nepotism Policy Revision

Aberdeen, Wa - The Aberdeen School Board will again clarify Policy 5251, after a loophole was pointed out at what would have been the second reading of the proposed changes to the schools nepotism policy earlier this week. School Superintendent Tom Opstad explained the original change "this line is just, in coaching, if we can't find someone and a family member is interested - and they're qualified, then it allows them."
A concerned coach pointed out that if someone meets minimum requirements they could argue that a family member shouldn't be hired over them. Board members discussed wording to illustrate that ultimately the decision comes down to the Superintendent.
