Aberdeen Talks Budget for This Year, Plans For Next

Aberdeen, WA -  City Council met with department heads to go over the 2011 and 2012 budgets earlier this week, Finance Director Kathryn Skolrood said this year is looking good so far "We were originally budgeting for a use of reserves of $242-thousand, currently we have an increase of reserve of almost 351-thousand." Skolrood said Aberdeen should be able to stuff about 186 thousand dollars from 2011 into reserves.
Mayor Bill Simpson said the practice of saving is becoming a good habit "We realize the things that are going on in the community, people loosing their house, loosing their jobs, and that's why we really have worked hard to keep the status quo of our funds."
Next year's budget sees a few mandatory spikes in expenditures including the match on two COPS grants of $126 thousand that funded two officers for the first two years, and $62 thousand for the purchase of two new Police cruisers.
