Posted by David Haviland on August 20, 2011 at 6:00 pm (920 social interactions)

Aberdeen, WA - An explosion behind the Grays Harbor PUD facility this afternoon has knocked out power to a large portion of downtown Aberdeen, Witness to the explosion Doug McDowell reports from the scene; "I was coming out of my garage when the explosion occured and the fireball was at least 150 to 200 feet high."

Liz Anderson with the Grays Harbor PUD tells us the equipment failure in the Bonneville Power Administration substation has knocked out power to more than 1000 customers. Anderson said power should be restored to ALL customers within 30 minutes.

Several streetlights in downtown Aberdeen and Hoquiam are without power, drive safe and remember that an uncontrolled intersection should be treated as a four way stop until power is restored.
