Aberdeen, WA - As Japan recovers from the Fukashima disaster overseas, coastal US states are beginning to wonder about debris that is slowly working it's way across the Pacific. WSU Extension Manager Steve Harbell tells us "there are several proposals to put some drifters out there that would track where that is." Scientists will get a closer look at debris in Hawaii a year earlier than the Washington coast "According to the Food and Drug Administration, the material from Japan poses no more of a threat than the solar radiation that we typically get here." Harbell said they're not expecting very large pieces either, with wave energy expected to smash the debris field into confetti-sized pieces long before it hits the coast.
