Aberdeen, WA - Grays Harbor's booming Port is gambling that rail improvements to accommodate coal exports would result in a win either way. Aberdeen City Councilman Frank Gordon said "Even if coal was stopped later on, we would have the facility because our exports are growing very very quickly here." Gordon said the proposed 45 million dollar export facility being shopped by RailAmerica was discussed at Aberdeen's city council meeting "They're talking about when the coal cars come there will be another 125 cars a day." Projected benefits from the project included about 1 million dollars annually in B&O taxes for Hoquiam if the plant becomes operational late 2013.
