HOQUIAM, Wash. - Vandals have destroyed what some have called a Hoquiam land mark, and the family would like to know why. Debra Buck, said the 10 foot roadside memorial to her son Ricky Pinnell was destroyed some time between Sunday night and yesterday morning. "Someone took it, and they took the baskets off and smashed them. They took the cross which was treated wood and they broke it off."

The cross was visible from Highway 109 near where Ricky Pinnell died nearly 10 years ago to a drunk driver, family discovered the broken cross that prominently said "Ricky" yesterday during his son's birthday visit. Buck said the cross may be back up soon, friends and family are encouraging the family to look into repairs.
