Aberdeen, WA - The Aberdeen High School chapter of SkillsUSA competed in the Olympic Region conference this past weekend (Saturday, March 5th) and came home with 11 medals including six regional champions. The top three placers in each contest qualify for the state competition to be held in Yakima later in April. AHS’ freshmen lead the way with a total of three regional champions between them. Aberdeen’s freshmen champions include; Tommy Ryan (HVAC/Refrigeration), Kayla Shelton (Job Demo) and Sydney Henderson (Job Interview). Other champions include; AHS Senior Mike Vanairsdale (Residential Wiring), AHS Junior Karmen Ayres (Prepared Speech) and Junior Robbie Kenagy (tying Kayla Shelton as Job Demo Champion). Aberdeen High silver medalists include; Mike Vaniarsdale (HVAC/Refrigeration) and Dakota Madtson (Residential Wiring). Bronze medalists for Aberdeen include; Karmen Ayres (Residential Wiring), Dakota Madtson (HVAC/Refrigeration) and the team of Jenna Prater and Sierra Fenn (Radio /Audio Production). Also qualifying is Aberdeen’s Quiz Bowl team of Jenna Prater, Sierra Fenn, Selena Alvarado, Nicole Tanselli and Karmen Ayres, by placing fifth.

The Aberdeen High School Chapter of SkillsUSA will be hosting a Cowboy Bar-B-Que Wednesday May 18th in the commons at Aberdeen High School from 6PM to 8PM. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased from any SkillsUSA member. The Aberdeen Chapter of SkillsUSA will be trying to raise $10,000 to send students and advisors to the national conference in Kansas City MO this June.
