Westport, WA - Vertical Evacuation has been the topic of discussion at several Pacific County meetings, and could become an option for Grays Harbor's coastal communities as well. John Schilling with the Washington State Emergency Management Agency tells us time is a factor "Those communities, Westport and Ocean Shores, are very vulnerable. The arrival time for the first wave estimates about half an hour. Estimated wave height is anywhere from 15 to 30 feet." Vertical evacuation can be anything from a physical structure to elevated ground that citizens can use to get to higher ground in the event of a tsunami with very little warning time. A Meeting to begin the discussion in Grays Harbor will be held tonight at the Chateau Westport from 6 to 8 The next meeting will be March 31st.
