8 Year Old Struck by Vehicle in Hoquiam

Posted by David Haviland on December 7, 2010 at 9:55 am (511 social interactions)

HOQUIAM, Wash. - At 3:09 pm on Monday Hoquiam police responded to the report of a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision in the 600 block of K Street.  The collision involved an 8 year old boy and a 2010 Chrysler 300 driven by a 68 year old Hoquiam man.

According to witnesses the boy was walking along the sidewalk on the eastside of K Street in the 600 block when he apparently decided to cross 6th Street.  As a truck northbound on K Street passed his location the boy darted out into the street behind the truck and was struck by the Chrysler that was traveling southbound on K Street.  Because the boy attempted to cross the street behind the truck the driver of the Chrysler could not see the boy and he did not have a sufficient amount of time to stop before striking him.  The vehicle was traveling below or at the speed limit.

The boy sustained minor abrasions and was treated at the scene by Hoquiam fire department paramedics and transported to Community Hospital as a precautionary measure.  The boy was examined at the hospital and released.

There was minimal damage to the vehicle and the driver was not injured.
