Naselle, WA - On September 23rd, 2010 the Pacific County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Naselle area after a citizen reported that her husband and three dogs were missing in the woods near mile post 8 on SR 401. The missing person was a 64 year old male that had entered the area to pick mushrooms. His family called after he failed to return to his vehicle.
The Pacific County Search and Rescue group as well as the Naselle Fire Department, West Coast Search Dogs out of Grays Harbor, and the United States Coast Guard were enlisted in the search for the missing person after family reported that the subject’s medical issues would become worse throughout the night if the he was not located before morning.
The Pacific County Mobile Command Center was brought to the scene and used as the incident command post. The teams searched with foot patrols, ATVs, four wheel drive vehicles and a Coast Guard Helicopter equipped with Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) for approximately three hours before locating the subject and his three dogs. The searchers spent another two hours extracting the subject from the difficult wooded terrain. The missing person and his animals were returned to family members without injury and in good health.
