Do Not "Dial 1 For The Security Department"

Posted by David Haviland on August 21, 2010 at 11:00 am (437 social interactions)

An automated dialer has been hitting local cell phone numbers over the past 24 hours, with a computer voice telling the cell phone owner that their Visa credit or debit card has been reported stolen and has been suspended to protect from further loss. The automated message that has been hitting 580, 581, and working it's way to 589 cell phone numbers will then ask you to press one to be transferred to Visa's security department.

Visa's website confirms this is a phishing scam and that they will not contact you from an "Unknown" or untraceable number to tell yo u your credit card has been stolen.
