Second Annual Monte Trails Appreciation Day: Saturday May 1st

Posted by David Haviland on April 28, 2010 at 5:44 am (815 social interactions)

Everyone is invited to come out on Saturday, May 1st for Monte Trails Appreciation Day. Trails are great recreation, but they require annual maintenance. It’s only through the efforts of local volunteers that the City can offer and continue to keep open our tremendous trail system. Bring your boots and gloves, a favorite shovel or pruning shears if you have them, and spend the morning helping to put our trails into tip top shape for another great year of outdoor enjoyment. The Party will begin at the parking area at Lake Sylvia State Park swim beach at 9:00 AM. Contact City Forester Loren Hiner (249-54241) or Mayor Ron Schillinger (249-3021) for additional information.

As many of us active outdoors-people know, the City’s nearly 5,000 acre Chapin Collins Forest is not only a much appreciated source of timber revenue for the City, but, in conjunction with Lake Sylvia State Park, it is also a wonderful place for local recreation. Local outdoor enthusiasts have been instrumental in creating and maintaining over 15 miles of wonderful hiking and mountain biking trails on the City Forest. There are short walks and day long adventures, easy strolls and difficult treks, streamside riparian paths and ridge top trails. Something for everyone!
