Recovery funds bring SR 8 cable barrier to Grays Harbor County

Elma, WA - A $1.5 million project funded by the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act begins Monday, March 15 on State Route 8 near Elma.



WSDOT and its contractor, Peterson Bros. Inc, will add high-tension, four-strand cable-barrier in median sections from Elma in Grays Harbor County, to the US 101 interchange in Thurston County.



Motorists can expect a left lane closure of westbound SR 8 and a left shoulder closure in the eastbound direction while crews work in the median from Elma (milepost 0) to just before the Cloquallam Creek Bridge (milepost 1). Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

This stretch of SR 8 carries approximately 17,000 vehicles a day.







Although no barrier can prevent every collision, high-tension cable barrier stops vehicles from crossing the median 95 percent of the time, reducing the potential for cross-over incidents.







This project, which is scheduled for completion July 2010, is expected to support 15 direct and indirect jobs.
