On Wednesday evening 3/11/09 at about 6:10 PM Hoquiam police responded to the report of a log truck roll-over accident in the area of 5th and Simpson Avenue.
Investigation at the scene revealed that a 2001 Kenworth Log Truck, driven by a 24 year old Arlington, Washington man, was completing a turn from 5th Street to southbound on Simpson Avenue when the second of two trailers the truck was pulling rolled over. Both trailers were loaded with logs.
The logs spilled onto the shoulder of the roadway near the used car lot located at the south west corner of the intersection. The driver of the truck told officers that he heard a loud pop and looked into his rearview mirror and saw the trailer begin to roll over.
As the trailer rolled over and the logs spilled the trailer and logs struck a 1994 Toyota pick-up that was parked on the street on the west side of Simpson Avenue. The force and the angle at which the pick-up was struck pushed it forward and up onto the sidewalk and it came to rest against the building at 510 Simpson Avenue. Two of the logs landed on a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu that was parked in the used car parking lot.
The amount of damage to the trailer, the building and the other vehicle involved is not known.
There were no injuries and the driver of the log truck was not cited.
