Hoquiam couple allegedly walk woman to cash her check, then rob her
HOQUIAM, Wash. – Police quickly tracked down a man and woman who reportedly robbed a 54 year old Hoquiam woman, after walking with her to the 2700 block of Simpson Avenue to cash her check.
Deputy Chief Don Wertanen tells us just before 11 Wednesday morning, they were called to a strong-arm robbery. It was reported a 54-year old Hoquiam woman was just leaving when a female grabbed her cash.
Hoquiam officers were at the scene within less than a minute, and able to obtain descriptions of the female suspect as well as a male observed with her. The officers were familiar with both as they had observed them walking earlier in the area. Officers recognized the female suspect as a 36-year old transient who formerly resided in Hoquiam.
Officers immediately located the 19-year old male subject, the female was found hiding in the backseat of a vehicle after she had called someone to pick her up from where she had been hiding in an alley.
The suspect was arrested without incident and transported to the police department to be interviewed for investigation of Robbery 2nd Degree. The female was in possession of some cash, but not the amount taken in the robbery.
Wertanen reports no weapons were displayed during the reported robbery; the victim did not sustain any injuries.
