UPDATE: Arrest made in Shelton homicide investigation

SHELTON, Wash. – Mason County Detectives have arrested a suspect on charges of Assault 1st Degree, after a man was found beaten and unconcious Tuesday night, and died yesterday. Lieutenant Les Watson with the Shelton Police Department identifies the suspect as 20 year old Eric Morrissey of Shelton. After Morrissey’s arrest, Detectives were contacted by the King County Medical Examiner’s office and informed that the victim of the assault had succumbed to the injuries sustained in the incident and was pronounced dead sometime after 1pm yesterday afternoon.
The victim was identified to be 27 year old Talon Newman, also of Shelton. It is expected that the Mason County Prosecutor’s office will amend the charges on Morrissey from assault to a homicide related charge in court later today.

The pertinent information obtained in this case so far indicates that the physical altercation that resulted in the death of Newman stemmed from an earlier disturbance or argument. The investigation is ongoing.
