Grays Harbor College teacher returns from 2 month ocean expedition

PORT ANGELES, Wash. – Dr. John Delaney’s VISIONS’13 ocean research expedition has come to an end, “We are laying an underwater network system that will allow us to be present in the ocean, 24/7 365 for decades.” Delany said the data will be collected and available on the internet.

Over the past two months, crews installed 72,000 feet of fibre optic cables on the Pacific ocean seafloor for the National Science Foundation’s Ocean Observatories Initiative.

Grays Harbor College instructor Julie Nelson was aboard in July and August, after 47 days at sea the research vessel Thomas G. Thompson arrived in Victoria B.C. on Monday.

The state website interactiveoceans.washington.edu offers archives of daily updates and video of the expedition.
