Port Orchard man drowns at Panther Lake
THREE LAKES, Wash. – A man drown Friday on the Mason County side of Panther lake, Detective Bill Adam tells KBKW on August 9, 2013 around 10 PM, the Mason County Sheriff’s Office was advised of a boating incident. Three men decided to take a very small boat out onto Panther Lake without oars or life jackets in order to fish. When it started to get dark, the men used their hands to paddle the boat when the boat began to sink. One of the men disappeared under the water and did not surface. The other two men were able to swim to shore.
The Mason County Sheriff’s Office launched a patrol boat and around 2352 hours, the missing man was observed laying on the bottom of the lake. With the assistance of the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, the man was recovered and taken to the shore, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mason County Coroner Wes Stockwell identified the dead man as Anthony Steven Asuelo, age 41, of Port Orchard.
The incident is under investigation and an autopsy will be performed this week. No further information is available at this time.
