HOQUIAM, Wash. – With the great weather in the forecast, the city of Hoquiam is opening their new spray park today at Art Pocklington Central Play Park, Mayor Jack Durney said the park has always been a favorite “I grew up a couple blocks away, so it’s always had this fence around it and now there’s a new one that’s absolutely gorgeous. We have paved walkways in there, [the] Hoquiam Rotary barbeque shed was constructed by some volunteers from the carpentry union. We’ve had city crew working on pouring concrete, doing different things, and the water spray park is ready to go.
City Staff, volunteers and contractors have been working steadily over the last three months to finish the park before July.

Recent work includes construction of the Rotary Picnic Shelter which was built thanks to a $10,000 donation by the Hoquiam Rotary Club, new fencing, walkways and landscaping improvements.

City Administrator Brian Shay tells us new benches donated by the Hoquiam Lions Club, picnic tables, lighting and other enhancements will be installed over the next month.

A formal grand opening celebration will be held later this summer to thank all of the volunteers, staff and donors, who contributed nearly $300,000 in grants and private donations to make this Hometown Hoquiam Project a reality.
