Hoquiam Man Arrested After Allegedly Pistol-Whipping Stepson

A Hoquiam man was arrested Sunday morning after allegedly pistol whipping his stepson during an argument. Hoquiam Deputy Police Chief Don Wertanen tells us just after midnight Saturday officers were called to a home in the 2000 block of Broadway Avenue for a report of domestic assault at the location where it was reported a firearm had been displayed.

Officers arrived and secured the scene. Wertanen said officers spoke to the victim, a 29-year old Hoquiam man, who had blood on his head, face and hands. The man said he had been in an argument with his stepfather about his 29-year old girlfriend and 2-year old son.

The argument allegedly escalated and turned physical. After a physical struggle, the stepfather went to his bedroom and retrieved a handgun. The victim said he feared for his families’ safety and charged his stepfather, at which time the 53-year old Hoquiam man struck his stepson in the head several times with the handgun.

Officers located the stepfather in the master bedroom and he was arrested without incident. The pistol was recovered in the residence and secured as evidence.

Hoquiam Fire Department Paramedics treated all three of the subjects involved at the scene for minor injuries. All involved parties refused transport to the hospital.

The 53-year old male was booked into the county jail for Domestic Violence Assault 2nd Degree.
