HOQUIAM, Wash. – Police K9 Enno sat quietly in the backseat of his cruiser last night, returning from his first cancer treatment, as his handler, Sgt Jeff Salstrom said it’s hard to tell how well it went so far. The best the Hoquiam Police Department are hoping for at this point is to slow the progression of a malignant tumor behind his left eye. Since his diagnosis, Enno’s condition has worsened as support for the 8 year veteran has grown.
Salstrom has been contacted by several agencies looking to help, including a private citizen and friend of Salstrom’s Troy Osiadacz, who has setup collections to help with Enno’s care in his final days. “Any overages after Enno’s medical bills are taken care of are going to go into the K9 fund to help the Hoquiam Police Department obtain another K9 because it’s really costly to get another dog and get it trained and train another officer to handle that dog.”
Donations for Enno’s care can be made at any Timberland bank branch throughout the harbor, or on the wepay page at https://www.wepay.com/donations/enno_2/ follow the collection progress at their facebook page https://www.facebook.com/HelpingHoquiamsK9Enno
Salstrom said last night that while he hopes to continue supporting the K9 program in Hoquiam, he wasn’t sure he could go through the loss of another partner on the beat, and looked forward to assuming an administrative role in any future K9 program at the department.
