SPOKANE, Wash. – A motorcycle that was reported stolen almost 37 years ago was recovered on Thursday, August 2nd, at the Washington State Patrol’s VIN lane in Spokane.
Washington State Patrol VIN Officer Donna LaMarca was presented with a 1972 Honda XL250 motorcycle for inspection for title purposes. Officer LaMarca verified the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). The VIN was then run through local data bases to include the purged/inactive stolen vehicle file. A possible stolen file was located but had to be found on microfiche because of its age. The microfiche report was verified by the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office as a stolen motorcycle that was reported stolen on November 21, 1975.
The original owner of the motorcycle was located and will be contacting our district office to claim the motorcycle that he hasn’t seen in almost 37 years. No charges will be filed against the person that brought the motorcycle in for inspection.
