Hoquiam Homicide Investigation Prompts Road Closures

HOQUIAM, Wash. – On 07/14/12 at approximately 3:10 a.m. a Hoquiam Police Officer on routine patrol located vehicle which appeared to have been involved collision near the intersection of 28th Street and Bay Avenue in Hoquiam. The officer found a white 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt had left the roadway, striking a rock embankment.
Upon checking the vehicle for victims, the officer found there was no one in the vehicle. The airbags had deployed. He located a large knife laying on the roadway near the driver’s door and blood on the door. Approximately 30 yards from the vehicle, the officer discovered a shoe in the roadway and a knife sheath with blood on it. This led the officer to believe the incident was more involved than a hit and run collision.
Additional officers from the Hoquiam and Aberdeen police departments responded to the area. While checking the area for persons involved in the incident, a female contacted an officer and advised she had received a call from her son who told her he was “going to do something terrible.” She directed the officer to her son’s location, about one block from the scene.
Upon contacting the subject, he admitted to stabbing the driver of the white car during an altercation at a nearby apartment complex. He advised the driver had then sped off in the white car.
A few moments later officers discovered a male subject down on the ground in a yard off of an alley approximately two blocks away. Officers checked for signs of life and did not locate any. They immediately began lifesaving efforts and summoned paramedics. Hoquiam Fire Department personnel responded and continued advanced lifesaving efforts, however they were unsuccessful and the subject was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect had been identified as a 16 year old Hoquiam boy. The victim has been tentatively identified as a 20 year old Aberdeen man. At the time of this informational release, Hoquiam Police Department detectives were still interviewing the suspect and potential witnesses. The crime scene investigation is also continuing.
