Long Road Home Project Kicks Off in Ocean Shores
The public is invited to come to Ocean Shores Brokers at 12:00 noon on Sunday, July 15th to join in the sendoff for five U.S. Veterans from the Long Road Home Project who will bicycle from Ocean Shores to Washington DC as a way to bring attention to the range of issues facing our Veterans. In addition to live music and refreshments, the send off ceremony will include an opportunity to meet the riders, support crew, and project organizers.
Local representatives from the American Legion, The Lions Club, The North Beach VFW, Mayor Crystal Dingler, the Ocean Shores Chamber of Commerce, North Beach Community TV and KOSW will be on hand to celebrate the sendoff. This group of veterans hopes to raise money to help other veterans live more fulfilling and meaningful lives.
The 4,200 mile journey begins in Ocean Shores, WA, and will end 90 days later in Washington D.C.
By the end of these 90 days:
- 1,500 vets will have committed suicide.
- 270,000 cases of PTSD will have been reported since the inception of the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
- 50,000 veterans will have returned home physically wounded since 2001, and
- 300,000 vets will spend a night on the street.
