Two in a row at Grays Harbor Raceway This Weekend
Four time Modified Champion from Shelton Scott Miller picked up the main event win in the Shipwreck Beads Modified division and leads former Champion Greg Moore from Seabeck by seven points 115 to 108. Mr. Consistency James Wolford Seabeck holds down third in the points parade, followed last year’s Rookie of the Year Joe German from Aberdeen, Warren, Oregon’s Jeremy Martin rounds out the top five.
In the Hobby Stock division, The Dominator Zack Simpson passed teammate Jack Parshall Jr. and picked up his first win of the year and leads the points 119 to 113 over Parshall. Simpson showed again it does not matter what he drivers he will somehow find a way to win. This time he did it from the back of the pack, after he pitted for mechanical repairs early in the event. To make things even better he was using a borrowed Crate engine from teammate Parshall. Gig Harbor’s Derek Junell finished third followed by many time Late Model pavement champion Tom Sweatman from Cosmopolis, Olympia’s Eddie Blood rounded out the top five.
In the Triple X Ford Focus division, 2009 Champion Seth Hespe from Snohomish will be looking to make it two championships in a row, in his potent Triple X car, Hespe can expect some still competition from several drivers including Springfield, Oregon’s Allison Journey in the Ken Sherwood owned car. 2009 Most improved driver Jeremy Miller from Aberdeen and 2009 Rookie of the Year winner Ariel Biggs from Hoquiam. Also don’t count out Mill Creek driver Gaylon Stewart and 2008 Grays Harbor Raceway Champion Jeff Bell from Marysville to make a run for the championship. Other drivers expected to compete include Todd Hartman from Bothell, and three more female competitors that include Annika Johanson from Lacey, Bailey Studer from Montesano and Carla Stewart from Mill Creek. The 2010 Rookie of the Year contenders include two 14 year old drivers with a very heavy background in racing. Both Garret Johnson from Poulsbo and Reese Goetz from Snohomish are stepping up to the Focus division after great careers in the 600 Mini Sprints at Deming Speedway. Goetz comes from a rich racing tradition as his father Alan was a many time NSRA Pavement Winged Sprint Car Champion.
Start times are a little different this year as the front gate will open at 4:30 pm, time trials at 5:30 pm, with racing to start at 6:30 pm.
