City changes direction on property purchase after learning it was already sold
The city of Aberdeen won’t be buying an empty lot downtown after all, Mayor Bill Simpson said they learned something new when they announced the city’s plans to build a downtown “visitor’s center” around the former site of a Chevron station. “Evidently one of the credit unions in town has purchased it, hopefully we can sit down and work together as a partnership.”
Late last month the city announced plans to purchase the empty lot, and develop a visitor information center near Zelasko Park. But the owner was already in talks to sell it.
Simpson said they are still interested in new development in the area, since it serves as a gateway to the downtown core.
