Aberdeen and Hoquiam units are still searching through the rubble of a house fire in the 700 block of 8th Avenue on top of Arnold Hill earlier this morning. Responding units reported the home was well involved when they arrived around 5. A couple of neighbors used a ladder to rescue an elderly couple from the home. Neighbor Mark lives just a block away, he tells KBKW “A fellow had the ladder up to the window and he and another guy went into the house, and he carried out the grandma over his shoulder kicking and screaming because her grand daughter was still in the house.”
The older couple was out safe this morning, their adult daughter was transported by aid from the scene. There have been reports of children in the home, but Fire Chief Tom Hubbard tells us they cannot confirm that at this time.
Hubbard thanked the neighbors and Aberdeen Police for their quick response before units arrived.
