ELMA – To prepare for the busy summer travel season, Washington State Department of Transportation maintenance crews will close the Elma Safety Rest Area on State Route 8 two miles east of Elma Wednesday, April 2 for maintenance.

Hours of the closure are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2.

The nearest safety rest areas to Elma are located on Interstate 5 near Grand Mound.  The Scatter Creek Rest Area is on northbound I-5 just north of Grand Mound; the Maytown Rest Area is on southbound I-5 11 miles south of Olympia.  Numerous other Safety Rest Areas are also available across the state to give travelers a place to rest before continuing on their journey.

Safety Rest Areas provide highway travelers safe and convenient facilities to rest themselves before continuing with their journey. The department owns and operates 48 Safety Rest Areas within our state. Twenty-eight of which are located on the Interstate System.
