2010 Little League State Tournament to be Hosted in East Grays Harbor

Thursday East Grays Harbor Little League was awarded the 2010 Washington State 11-12 year old Little League tournament to be held starting around July 24th, 2010.  EGHLL President, Ian Osgood's response was, "This is a huge honor for our league and our community.  It is a way to say thanks to those in our community who have sponsored Little League for so many years."

Task Force Recommends a Local Tax to Tackle Substance Abuse and Mental Health

The Grays Harbor Task Force on Substance Abuse and Mental Health released its report today, recommending that the County Commissioners adopt a 1/10th of 1% retail sales tax. The amount is equivalent to 1 penny on a $10 taxable purchase.

Task Force Chair Larry Kahl commented, "We understand that ‘no new taxes' is a common refrain. No one wants added tax burden in an economic downturn. But we have studied the issues carefully and we believe this measure is affordable and that the benefits to our community far outweigh the costs. "

Stepped Up Law Enforcement Patrols to Focus on Grays Harbor County Child Car Seat Violations

Between June 19 and July 2, Grays Harbor County law enforcement will once again commit extra patrols for Child Car Seat Violations. The law enforcement officers who are participating in the emphasis patrols have been through intensive child passenger safety training, some of whom are certified car seat technicians.

With summer upon us, the timing coincides with more kids riding in cars, perhaps improperly. As they ramp up for another round of child car seat-focused patrols, law enforcement officers want parents to know that kids up to age 13 need to ride in the back seat or it's a substantial ticket: $124.

Truck Takes Out PUD Pole/Power in Hoquiam

A car-vs-pole accident in Hoquiam last night took out power for 1100 North Hoquiam residents
the accident occured at 9:42 PM in the 100 block of Andreason The Hoquiam Police Department reports a 1976 Black Toyota Pickup was found nearby, and as Seargent Stever Fretts tells us the pickup was upside down in the ditch near the power pole.

The driver, a 44 YO Ocean City man, admitted to driving too fast, and was later cited for DUI.
Power was restored to most residents after 11pm last night, 3:30 this am to remainder.

Grays Harbor PUD Crews Respond to Outages in Hoquiam and Elma Areas

Aberdeen- Grays Harbor PUD crews responded to two power outages last night and early this morning impacting approximately 1,100 customers in the Hoquiam area and approximately 200 customers in the Elma area.  

A vehicle striking a pole at 9:42pm last night in the 100 block of Endresen in the Hoquiam area caused the outage impacting about 1,100 customers.  The power was restored to most customers by 11:03pm. Power was restored to the remaining customers at 3:32am.

 A power line down at Sund Road and Delezenne Road in the Elma area was the cause of an outage impacting about 200 customers at 1:14am. Power was restored at 6:07am. There was no indication what caused the wire to come down.
