Lady Washington to remain in Aberdeen for extensive planned maintenance Aberdeen, Wash. – The Grays Harbor Historical Seaport is pleased to announce the ports of call for its 2009-2010 California tour of the tall ship Hawaiian Chieftain. The tour theme is “California 2009-2010: Hands-on History for Youth.” The tour emphasizes the Hawaiian Chieftain’s mission of delivering valuable—and in some cases, life-changing—educational experiences for young people, many of whom go on to careers in the maritime trades, the Navy, and the Coast Guard.
Scheduled ports of call include: San Francisco (October [tentative] and February), Sacramento, Antioch, Rio Vista, Santa Cruz, Newport Beach, Oxnard, Ventura, Oakland, Redwood City, Eureka, and Crescent City. At each port, Hawaiian Chieftain will host groups from K-12 classrooms for hands-on living history programs. SHELTON, Wash. - The Mason County Sheriff’s Office is attempting to create a patrol K-9 team to assist in the effort to combat crime in Mason County. The K-9 team is a valuable asset to deputies and other law enforcement officers who are working diligently to protect the citizens of this County. The addition of a Patrol K9 team will enhance this agency’s ability to track down, locate and capture wanted offenders in rural and urban environments. The deployment of a Patrol K9 will greatly enhance the safety of the citizens and law enforcement officers of Mason County. The Sheriff’s Office currently relies on the generosity of other agencies for K9 assets. These extended response times and limited availability often lead to the escape of offenders, increasing risk to officers and citizens.

Camp Murray, Wash. – Washington State will observe National Preparedness Month and NOAA Weather Radio Awareness Month in September. Special events and promotions are scheduled across the state to focus individuals and businesses on the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies.
A National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Weather Radio is an important preparedness tool for homes, businesses, government offices and schools.

Pacific Financial Corporation, the parent company for Bank of the Pacific, recently completed a $12.6 million private placement offering of common stock. “The common equity will be used to take advantage of growth opportunities within our geographic markets,” according to Dennis A Long, President and CEO of the holding company. “While these are troubled times for many within the financial services industry, we view this as a unique opportunity for those with a strong capital base. The capital raise will result in Pacific having a Tier 1 capital ratio of 9.5% and a total Risk Based capital ratio of 13.6%,” Long said.
Board Chairman, Gary Forcum, indicated the Board of Directors had steered away from government TARP money in favor of the common equity. He stated, “The board’s conclusion was that common equity was more beneficial for shareholders. The board firmly believes public companies should rely on private equity rather than government assistance,”
