Posted by David Haviland on August 25, 2009 at 6:06 am (620 social interactions)

Hoquiam, WA - On Sunday 8/23/09 at 10:20 am Hoquiam police responded to the report of a vehicle parked in the garage of a vacant home in the 2700 block of Queets Avenue.

The complaint told officers that he and his sister had inherited the home when his mother passed away several years ago and that he stops by the vacant house to check on it regularly. When he stopped by the house on Saturday morning 8/22/09 he saw a 2008 Honda Civic parked in the garage. The vehicle did not have license plates on it. The complainant waited until Sunday to call the police.

A records check of the Vehicle Identification Number returned showing that the Honda was stolen from a Bremerton Washington dealership on June 14, 2009. The vehicle was towed from the home to the Hoquiam police department where it will be searched and processed for latent fingerprints.

During the preliminary investigation officers developed a possible suspect who is a relative of one of the current home owners. Hoquiam detectives will be conducting the follow-up investigation.

Hoquiam, WA - Back on Tuesday April 27, 2009 at about 11:25 pm a Hoquiam officer saw a white Nissan Sentra parked behind the Grizzly Den in the 300 block of W. Emerson after the restaurant had closed. The officer found the vehicle unoccupied but a records check on the license plate number revealed that the Nissan had been stolen in Aberdeen.

Sergeant Joe Strong arrived on the scene to help process the car for possible evidence and latent fingerprints. Sgt. Strong lifted several latent prints from the interior of the vehicle and submitted them to the Washington State Patrol’s Identification for possible identification. Recently Sgt. Strong received a report from the WSP Identification Section stating that a positive identification had been made. Through the use of the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) one of the latent lifts was identified as being the left the left thumb impression of a 19 year old Aberdeen woman.

After receiving the fingerprint report Sgt. Strong contacted the victim of the vehicle theft to determine if the suspect was known to him. The victim did not know the person identified as the suspect. A report will be forwarded to the Grays Harbor County Prosecutor’s Office requesting that the suspect be charged with Possession of Stolen Property.

Drug Arrest in Hoquiam

On Saturday 8/22/09 at 7:00 pm Hoquiam police responded to the parking lot at McDonald’s, 2500 block Simpson Avenue, to check on the welfare of two individuals in a blue Ford that was parked in the lot. It appeared to the reporting party that these individuals were passed out.

When officers arrived on the scene they found two males seated in the vehicle. An officer attempted to speak to the male in the driver’s seat but he appeared lethargic and had difficulty answering the officer’s questions. While the man was speaking to the officer he grabbed a shirt from the back seat of the car and placed it over the center console between the front seats. The man began to reach under the shirt he was wearing so for officer safety purposes the man was ordered to keep his hands visible and to step from the car. During a pat-down of the man the officer located a cylinder type object in the man’s pocket with a screw on cap. This is the type of container typically used to hide illegal narcotics. The officer asked the man what was in the container and he replied that is was “Oxy 80s.” The officers also asked what the man was hiding under the shirt on the center console and he stated that it was a, “Pill grinder and a cutter.”

The 22 year old Aberdeen man was arrested and taken to the Hoquiam Police station for further questioning. He was released from custody but will be charged at a later date for a Violation of the Uniform Controlled Substance Act (VUCSA) after the suspected narcotics are analyzed at the Washington State Patrol crime lab.

Aberdeen, WA - WSDOT is moving forward with a design-build contract to build pontoons to replace the aging SR 520 floating bridge. Three pre-qualified contractor teams were selected to submit proposals for this $300 million to $600 million contract that is expected to create approximately 2,000 project-related jobs at the height of construction in 2013.

The three selected teams are:  Grays Harbor Constructors Joint Venture; Kiewit-General a Joint Venture; and Skanska, Mowat, Manson Joint Venture. The contractor teams must submit their proposals to WSDOT by Nov. 24, 2009, and WSDOT is expected to announce the apparent best value proposal before the end of the year.

The SR 520 Pontoon Construction Project includes the design and construction of a new pontoon construction facility in Grays Harbor County beginning in 2010, the design and construction of the new bridge pontoons, and storage of pontoons for the planned SR 520 floating bridge replacement or if they are needed in the event of a catastrophic failure.
