OLYMPIA – The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is taking measures to encourage better sanitary practices by anglers fishing the Skokomish River to protect both human health and fish and shellfish resources.

With hundreds of recreational salmon anglers fishing the river each day, an accumulation of human waste and trash is creating potential health and water quality problems, said Jim Scott, assistant director for WDFW’s fish program.

To improve the situation, the department is increasing the number of dumpsters and portable toilets in the areas along the river that are most affected.

Aberdeen, WA –  The administrative team at Grays Harbor Community Hospital has been named the “Top Leadership Team in Healthcare” for mid-sizedhospitals (100-499 beds). The distinction comes from HealthLeaders Media, the leading industry publisher of information resources for senior-level healthcare executives, reaching more than 100,000 healthcare decision-makers nationwide every month.

“Our associates have worked hard to improve our hospital, and had a great story to tell”, explains CEO John Mitchell. “As the leadership team, we simply told it.”

Grays Harbor Community Hospital was originally identified as one of 12 semi-finalists in their category; which was later narrowed down to 2 finalists. An on-site inspector, who is a former hospital system CEO, visited GHCH in May. He toured the facility, interracted with the administrative team, spoke with employees and Medical Staff, and interviewed Doug Barker, Managing Editor of the Daily World. “His goal”, shared Mitchell, ” was to validate that the challenges and results identified in our application were accurate.”

Posted by David Haviland on August 26, 2009 at 5:36 am (1590 social interactions)

Aberdeen, WA - A suspicious vehicle stop in Aberdeen led to a warrant arrest from the Department of Corrections most wanted list.

Just before 2:30 Tuesday morning, a vehicle stopped at Seargent boulevard on Highway 12, then continued on - with no requirement to stop in that area, Aberdeen officer Rasmun observed the strange behavior and stopped the vehicle, requesting ID. The driver first gave a false name of Mathew, but later couldn't spell that name, after being arrested by the officer for failure to provide Identification, and taken to Aberdeen Police Department he gave his real name, Jeremy John Talmich.

Officer Rasmun recognized that name from the DOC's most wanted list and Talmich admitted he was the the man.

Aberdeen Police Captain John Green tells us "Officer's out there doing his job at 2:27 in the morning. This guy's 5 over and making this goofy stop, and gets arrested on these [warrants]. We take him off the most wanted list [from the] Department of Corrections, the original charges that they have for him was Assault in the Second Degree and a drug posession"

Talmich was transferred to the Grays Harbor County Jail on multiple charges.

Hoquiam, WA - On Sunday 8/23/09 at 10:20 am Hoquiam police responded to the report of a vehicle parked in the garage of a vacant home in the 2700 block of Queets Avenue.

The complaint told officers that he and his sister had inherited the home when his mother passed away several years ago and that he stops by the vacant house to check on it regularly. When he stopped by the house on Saturday morning 8/22/09 he saw a 2008 Honda Civic parked in the garage. The vehicle did not have license plates on it. The complainant waited until Sunday to call the police.

A records check of the Vehicle Identification Number returned showing that the Honda was stolen from a Bremerton Washington dealership on June 14, 2009. The vehicle was towed from the home to the Hoquiam police department where it will be searched and processed for latent fingerprints.

During the preliminary investigation officers developed a possible suspect who is a relative of one of the current home owners. Hoquiam detectives will be conducting the follow-up investigation.
