Grays Harbor Community Foundation Supports Free Play Groups in Aberdeen to Help Expand Early Learning Opportunities

Along with providing educational scholarships and grant opportunities for our local nonprofits and school districts, the Grays Harbor Community Foundation is committed to expanding early learning opportunities for children in Grays Harbor.
One of the ways they do this is by supporting the Kaleidoscope Play and Learn Group for parents and caregivers with children birth to 5 years of age. This is a free play group located in the Shoppes at Riverside in Aberdeen and is facilitated through the Childcare Action Council.
During the last session of the month, kids had the opportunity to care for baby dolls. Parents and the group leader modeled ways to show love and caring for the dolls through play. Through learning questions (such as “does the baby feel happy?”), the children learned how their actions affect other children and others feelings.

“She looks forward to play group all week,” said Megan, a play group parent. “She will ask everyday, ‘Play group today? Play group today?’ It’s really about the friends we make.”

Aberdeen Kaleidoscope Play and Learn groups meet every Wednesday at 10:00am-11:30am and 1:00pm-2:30pm. All groups are free and sign-up by calling Maira Ramirez, 360-786-8907 x 115 or [email protected]. For more information visit their website.
