Lloyd Bishop/NBCBilly Joel is one of the celebrities featured in a new documentary focusing on the baby boomer generation that will air next month on PBS as part of the network’s American Masters series.

The Boomer List will take a look at the many significant events that took place during the era, which ran from 1946 until 1964, through candid, talking-head interviews with 19 well-known baby boomers — each one born during a different year. Billy represents 1949; other participants include Samuel L. Jackson, Steve Wozniak, Tommy Hilfiger, Amy Tan, Maria Shriver, Kim Cattrall, Erin Brockovich, Rosie O’Donnell and John Leguizamo.

In a trailer for the documentary, Billy shares his early impression of The Beatles. “They didn’t look like movie stars,” notes the Piano Man. “They were from Liverpool, which is even a worse-sounding name than Hicksville,” referring to the New York town where he grew up.

“The film captures the boomer generation’s dynamic spirit through 19 distinct ‘American Masters’ who had a profound effect on our world, ssays filmmaker Timothy Greenfield-Sanders.

The Boomer List is scheduled to premiere on September 23 at 9 p.m. …read more
