Inconceivable! John Mayer Was Considered to Create Musical Based on “The Princess Bride”

ABC/Randy HolmesA number of music legends have gotten involved with writing Broadway musicals — Sting and Paul Simon are just a few — but it turns out that a younger musician came close to being hired to create a show based on one of the best-loved movies of the ’80s: The Princess Bride.

The website Collider reports that, while promoting his new movie And So It Goes, director Rob Reiner, who also directed The Princess Bride, revealed that he has had a number of discussions about turning that film into a musical, and one of those discussions was with none other than John Mayer.

Reiner said at first, he discussed the project with Mark Shaiman, a composer who’s done many of Reiner’s movies. “He said, ‘I wouldn’t know what to do. I mean, it’s too good a movie.
