Elma Man Pronounced Dead at Scene of Rollover Tractor Accident

An Elma man died Monday after his tractor rolled over and pinned him. Chief Criminal Deputy Steve Shumate with the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that deputies were called to the 200 block of Minkler Road in Montesano at 12:15 pm Monday. A family member called 911 to report a man pinned underneath a tractor that was over an embankment.

The first deputies on scene arrived with the aid crew, but Shumate said it was determined that the man was deceased.

Deputies learned that the man was James S. Miller, a 57 year old Elma resident. The residence on Minkler Road belonged to a family member of Mr. Miller.

Shumate said it was apparent that Mr. Miller had been operating a Kubota KH-50 excavator on the property near a hillside when the excavator gave way and rolled, pinning Mr. Miller under the piece of equipment. Shortly thereafter, he had been found by a family member who immediately called 911 to report the incident.

Our condolences go out to the family and friends of James S. Miller for this very tragic accident.
