MONTESANO, Wash. – Grays Harbor County faces a difficult situation with what could become a precedent-setting decision, just to find a County Prosecutor. The commissioners today heard their answer from appointee Vini Samuel, not only did she decline she urged them to pick Deputy Prosecutor Katie Svoboda.
The commissioners received a letter from Samuel just before 5 Wednesday evening. On Monday they had asked her to take the oath of office since she had been – either chosen for appointment, or appointed in October, she said she would provide her answer on Wednesday.
Superior Court Judge Gordon Godfrey aired his concerns about the whole situation at that meeting, noting that he wasn’t even sure if he had a Prosecutor currently.
One theory on the matter holds that the county commissioners would ask the Democrats for another list of three willing candidates, after their appointed candidate reconsidered and re-created the vacancy. Others are waiting for a 60-day clock to run up on November 29th, sending the matter to the Washington Governor’s desk for a decision regardless.
